"When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others." ~ Peace Pilgrim
Yoga for children is quite different than yoga for adults. However, they need it for many of the same reasons. Kids today have busy lives and have a lot of demands on their attention and energies. The world today is one full of opportunities for overstimulation. Yoga is a chance to develop skills that will be physically and mentally beneficial.
A few of the skills your child could develop in yoga:
Most importantly, kids yoga is joyful and playful! Forget any mental picture of rows of perfect, quiet, little yogis. Kids yoga is playful. There is a lot of movement. It may appear chaotic at times. It may be noisy. And that is all okay!
As the name Storybook Yoga implies we will be weaving together words and movement. We will incorporate movement and breath exercises to make stories come alive. We will use the stories to introduce and reinforce our themes. Using movement, breath, literature, art, nutrition, games, and music we will create an experience that appeals to all the senses and learning styles.

I discovered children's yoga while teaching kindergarten. A parent came in and led a Cat in the Hat yoga practice during Dr. Seuss Week. I was delighted!
